We are very excited this week. Firstly the new thatch is coming along very fast and is really looking fantastic and secondly, the news we have all been waiting for; we can re-open on Saturday 4th July!!! This is news which is obviously very welcome although we go forward with great care. We have decided that, for a while at least, we plan to open on a limited basis to respect the health of our customers and staff. We have bought some new picnic tables which will be located at a safe distance from each other on a new decking area which will be built at the front of the pub. We would encourage all customers to use this area and only sit inside in inclement weather. There will be limited seating inside and there will be no sitting or standing at the bar please. There will be a one way system into and out of the pub, please observe the distancing rules whilst on the premises. For the time being, our menu will be the existing Take Away menu, so you can either sit and eat here or take your food home to eat. This is all further complicated by the fact that the thatch will not be finished until mid-July so until that point we will only be open on a limited basis for the following hours Wednesday & Thursday 5pm – 9pm and Friday & Saturday 12 Noon – 9.00 pm, Sunday 12-8pm. We will be serving our take-away menu 12-2 and 6-8 during opening times. Please bear with us as we want to tread carefully and slowly to protect you all. More details to follow soon. We would like to have a full ‘fanfare’ opening once the thatch and associated works are finished, and things get more relaxed. Traditional 16th century thatched inn on the old road from Barnstaple to Exeter. There are four separate eating areas serving locally sourced, home cooked food from a seasonal menu. The pub retains many original architectural features, including two real fires, one of which has a bread oven, while various photographs of historical interest adorn the walls. Outside there is a pleasant, south-facing patio.
