Dog friendly and ever popular with walkers and hikers, this privately owned and run 13th-century inn lies on the old coaching route from Porlock to Lynmouth. The unspoilt interior has low ceilings, blackened beams and stone fireplaces. Four real ales are usually available, including a very good house beer and at least one guest. Food is served all day from an extensive menu, either in the bar or the large dining area.
